Range Rover Electric India Bookings Open At Rs. 10 Lakhs

JLR has opened bookings in India for the production-spec Range Rover Electric, its first fully electric version of the flagship luxury SUV. Customers can reserve the model for a token amount of Rs. 10 lakhs, with deliveries and final pricing expected to be announced closer to its market launch.

The Range Rover Electric will be available in India in several configurations. Bookings are currently being accepted for the standard-wheelbase model in Autobiography guise, while the long-wheelbase version can be booked in SV, SV Ultra and SV Black trims.

The standard-wheelbase First Edition is also available for booking, with customers able to choose from Belgravia Green, Santorini Black and Varesine Blue exterior finishes.

600 km claimed range from 118.5kWh battery

The electric Range Rover uses a 118.5kWh battery pack and a dual-motor powertrain. The two motors together produce up to 550 HP and 850 Nm, enabling a claimed 0-100 km/hr acceleration time of 4.5 seconds.

JLR quotes a maximum WLTP range of up to 600 km, while its estimated real-world range is around 535 km.

The SUV is based on JLR’s Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex), which is also used by the combustion-engine and plug-in hybrid versions of the Range Rover.

Fast charging in 22 minutes

The Range Rover Electric supports DC fast charging at up to 350kW. Under suitable conditions, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 22 minutes.

JLR also claims that a 10-minute charging session can add up to 220 km of range.

The SUV’s electric powertrain has been engineered to retain much of the off-road capability associated with the Range Rover brand. In single-pedal driving mode, the vehicle can tackle gradients of up to 45 degrees.

Its Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system adjusts torque distribution based on available traction, while the traction management system can alter motor speed within 50 milliseconds. JLR says the system can manage wheel slip significantly faster than a comparable combustion-powered vehicle.

Water-wading ability is rated at 900 mm, matching the capability of the ICE-powered Range Rover. Air suspension will also be available.

Styling remains close to combustion model

Rather than giving the EV a dramatically different appearance, Range Rover has retained the familiar design of the conventional model.

The electric version shares several exterior elements with the ICE Range Rover, including its LED lighting, flush-fitting door handles, front-door graphic and overall body shape. The rear spoiler incorporates the windscreen wiper, while the tailgate and rear bumper retain similar detailing.

The key visual changes are concentrated around the front grille and wheels, which have been optimised for improved aerodynamic efficiency.

There is also no prominent ‘Electric’ badge on the exterior. As expected, the absence of exhaust outlets is another visual distinction.

Familiar cabin with new EV-specific technology

The interior follows the same design approach as the exterior, with the cabin closely resembling that of the standard Range Rover.

The dashboard, steering wheel, centre console and drive-mode controls follow the existing layout. A 13.7-inch digital instrument display sits ahead of the driver, while infotainment functions are handled through a 13.1-inch touchscreen.

The EV gets an AI-based range prediction system designed to provide a more accurate estimate of remaining driving range. A digital monitoring system, referred to as a ‘digital twin’, tracks battery health and other relevant vehicle information and is expected to be standard across the range.

Depending on the chosen variant, equipment is expected to include a panoramic roof, premium audio system, multi-zone climate control and heated, ventilated and massaging seats. Buyers are also likely to have access to an extensive list of personalisation options.

Expected to cost around Rs. 3.5 crores

The Range Rover Electric will be imported into India as a completely built unit (CBU) from JLR’s Solihull facility in the UK.

The SUV is expected to be priced at around Rs. 3.5 crore (ex-showroom) when launched. Since it will arrive as a fully imported EV, it is not expected to benefit from tariff concessions under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement.

With bookings now open, the Range Rover Electric will join the growing number of high-end electric SUVs targeting India’s luxury vehicle market, while retaining the conventional Range Rover’s styling and off-road positioning.
