Mercedes-Benz has opened bookings for the GLC Electric in India ahead of its market launch on November 4. The electric SUV will be sold in the 400 4Matic specification and will be locally assembled at the company’s Chakan facility in Pune.
The GLC Electric is expected to be positioned in the Rs. 80 lakh-90 lakh (ex-showroom) bracket. Once launched, it will target premium electric SUVs and is expected to face competition from the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase, which is scheduled to arrive in India in 2027.
Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric powertrain and range
The India-bound GLC Electric 400 4Matic uses a 94kWh battery pack internationally, paired with two electric motors driving all four wheels. The setup develops a combined 490 HP and 800 Nm.
Mercedes claims a 0-100 km/hr acceleration time of 4.3 seconds. Despite weighing around 2.5 tonnes, the SUV therefore offers performance comparable with several performance-oriented electric SUVs.
The international-spec model has a claimed WLTP range of up to 715 km. However, the final specifications and certified range for the India-spec SUV will be confirmed closer to its launch.
Charging capability is another highlight, with support for DC fast charging at up to 330kW. Mercedes claims that a 10-minute charging session can add up to 300km of range under suitable conditions.
The global GLC Electric 400 4Matic also gets air suspension and rear-wheel steering with up to 4.5 degrees of steering angle at the rear.
GLC Electric gets distinctive exterior styling
The GLC Electric takes a noticeably different approach to the design compared with the conventional GLC. The front end features a broad, rounded grille with illuminated elements, flanked by projector LED headlamps and star-shaped LED daytime running lights.
The SUV has a relatively clean side profile, with flush-fitting door handles and subtle cladding around the wheel arches. Depending on the variant, international versions can be equipped with alloy wheels measuring up to 21 inches.
At the rear, the tail-lamps feature Mercedes’ three-pointed-star motif within circular lighting elements. A gloss-black panel connects the lamps, while the Mercedes badge at the front is illuminated.
International markets also get an AMG Line version with sportier exterior detailing and different alloy wheel designs. It remains to be seen which exterior specification Mercedes will offer in India.
39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen dominates the cabin
Inside, the most prominent feature is Mercedes-Benz’s 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. The display combines the driver’s instrument cluster, central infotainment system and a screen for the front passenger into a single dashboard-spanning unit.
The system runs Mercedes’ fourth-generation MBUX software and incorporates an AI-powered assistant. Despite the extensive use of screens, Mercedes has retained some conventional physical controls, including controls on the steering wheel and centre console.
The GLC Electric will be offered with seating for five occupants. Further details about the India-specific equipment list and interior trim will be revealed closer to the launch.
Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: expected price and rivals
With an expected price of Rs. 80 lakh-90 lakh, the GLC Electric will sit firmly in the premium electric SUV segment. Its combination of a large battery, dual-motor all-wheel drive and a claimed range of more than 700km could make it a strong contender in this space.
The SUV will be locally assembled in India, which should help Mercedes position it more competitively than a fully imported model. However, the final pricing, equipment and India-specific range will determine how it compares with upcoming rivals.
The BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase is expected to enter the Indian market in 2027 and will be one of the key competitors to the GLC Electric.
