2026 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the facelifted Maybach S-Class in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 3.35 crores. The India-spec model is available exclusively as the S 580e, marking the first time the Maybach S-Class in the country has been offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The first batch allocated for India comprises 30 units. The S 580e sits significantly above the regular S-Class in price, with a premium of around Rs 97 lakh over the S-Class Manufaktur Edition AMG Line introduced recently.

Mercedes-Benz says the Maybach accounts for roughly half of its S-Class sales in India, underlining the importance of the luxury sub-brand in the Indian market.

Mercedes-Maybach S 580e: powertrain and performance

The biggest mechanical change comes under the bonnet. Unlike the outgoing Maybach S-Class, which used a 4.0-litre V8, the S 580e combines a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 22kWh battery pack.

The petrol engine produces 443 HP and 560 Nm, while the electric motor develops 160 HP and 480 Nm. Combined system output stands at 585 HP and 750 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels as standard.

Mercedes claims an electric-only range of up to 98 km, with the S 580e capable of reaching 140 km/hr without using the petrol engine. The claimed WLTP fuel efficiency is 34.48 km/l, although real-world efficiency will depend considerably on charging frequency and driving conditions.

The powertrain offers three primary drive modes — Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold. Adjustable energy recuperation is also available, including a one-pedal driving function.

For charging, the S 580e gets an 11kW AC onboard charger and supports DC fast charging at rates of up to 60kW. Air suspension and rear-wheel steering are standard.

Maybach S-Class interior and features

As expected from a Maybach, the rear compartment remains the primary focus. The India-spec S 580e is configured as a four-seater and gets executive rear seats separated by a full-length centre console.

The Rear Comfort Package Plus is standard and adds features such as electrically operated tray tables, wireless smartphone charging, ambient lighting and temperature-controlled cup holders. The rear seats can recline to 43 degrees, compared with 38 degrees in the regular S-Class, and offer heating, ventilation and massage functions.

Mercedes has replaced the earlier tablet-style rear controller with two individual smartphone-like remotes for operating various cabin functions.

Up front, the overall dashboard architecture is shared with the facelifted S-Class. It features the MBUX Superscreen, comprising the central infotainment display and a passenger-side screen with a privacy function. The driver gets a 3D digital instrument display.

The Maybach differentiates itself through its bespoke graphics and rose-gold detailing. Other notable equipment includes an augmented-reality head-up display, augmented-reality navigation, a 31-speaker Burmester 4D sound system and two rear entertainment screens with wireless headphones.

The cabin uses Maybach-specific Nappa leather upholstery in crystal white and silver grey pearl, complemented by Manufaktur piano lacquer trim and additional leather detailing.

Mercedes-Maybach S 580e exterior design

The facelift brings several visual changes, with the Maybach receiving its own interpretation of the updated S-Class design.

The grille is now larger and features illumination, while an illuminated Mercedes star sits on the bonnet. Maybach-specific vertical grille elements and an illuminated Maybach lettering add further differentiation.

The revised headlamps incorporate Mercedes’ latest Digital Light technology and three-pointed-star daytime running light signatures. The Maybach version replaces the blue detailing seen on the regular S-Class with rose-gold elements and Maybach branding.

The Maybach S-Class retains its extended proportions, measuring 180mm longer than the regular long-wheelbase S-Class. It rides on 20-inch forged Maybach alloy wheels featuring a counterweighted Mercedes logo designed to remain upright while the wheel rotates.

Other Maybach-specific touches include an illuminated emblem on the D-pillar, while the rear gets updated tail-lamps with a three-pointed-star lighting signature.

What makes the Maybach S 580e different?

The move to a plug-in hybrid powertrain changes the character of the Maybach S-Class compared with the V8-powered model it replaces. The S 580e combines substantial system output with the ability to cover short trips using electric power alone, while retaining the long-distance capability of a petrol-electric powertrain.

Its positioning, however, remains firmly at the luxury end of the market. At Rs. 3.35 crores, the Maybach S 580e commands a considerable premium over the standard S-Class, with much of the additional cost going towards its four-seat configuration, bespoke cabin appointments, Maybach-specific design elements and additional comfort equipment.
