Range Rover Sport Electric India Bookings Open, 609 Km Range

JLR has opened bookings for the Range Rover Sport Electric in India, marking the arrival of the first fully electric version of the Sport nameplate. The SUV uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and a 118.5kWh battery, with deliveries in India expected to begin by March 2027.

The Range Rover Sport Electric is expected to be positioned above the existing combustion-engined versions of the SUV, with an estimated price of around Rs 2.5 crore.

Range Rover Sport Electric: Powertrain and range

The electric SUV is based on JLR’s 800V MLA-Flex architecture, which is also used by the Range Rover Electric. It uses a 118.5kWh battery pack and dual electric motors driving all four wheels.

Key specifications include:

– Up to 550 HP
– 850 Nm of peak torque
– 0-100 km/hr in a claimed 4.5 seconds
– Claimed 609 km WLTP range
– 118.5kWh battery
– 800V electrical architecture
– Dual-motor AWD

JLR says the 850Nm output is the highest torque figure offered on a Range Rover Sport so far. The claimed acceleration time is also comparable to that of the P540 V8-powered Range Rover Sport.

350kW fast charging

The Range Rover Sport Electric supports DC fast charging at up to 350kW. JLR claims the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 22 minutes.

A 10-minute charging session is claimed to add up to 220km of range, under the company’s stated conditions.

The battery comes with an eight-year or 1.6 lakh km warranty, whichever comes first.

Chassis and suspension

The electric SUV gets several chassis changes compared with the combustion-engined Sport. JLR says its body structure is 61 percent stiffer, while the centre of gravity is 73mm lower.

The suspension setup includes double wishbones at the front and a five-link arrangement at the rear. It also features air suspension, twin-valve dampers, active roll control and all-wheel steering.

Braking hardware comprises 380mm ventilated front discs with four-piston callipers and 355mm rear discs.

Exterior design remains familiar

Visually, the Range Rover Sport Electric retains much of the design of its combustion-engined counterpart. The front gets slim LED headlamps and a black, aerodynamically optimised grille, while Range Rover lettering is positioned on the bonnet.

The SUV is available with wheels measuring up to 22 inches, with aerodynamic inserts designed for the electric model. Flush-fitting door handles and blacked-out pillars, roof and exterior mirrors are also part of the design.

At the rear, the electric SUV gets wraparound LED tail-lights connected visually by a gloss-black panel carrying Range Rover lettering.

Four variants available

JLR will offer the Range Rover Sport Electric in four variants:

– Dynamic SE
– Dynamic HSE
– Autobiography
– First Edition

A Black Pack and Satin Wrap will also be available. The First Edition gets a Zadar Grey exterior with a Satin Wrap, black contrast roof and 22-inch wheels. Autobiography buyers will also have access to Range Rover Bespoke personalisation options.

Interior and features

The cabin largely follows the layout of the combustion-engined Range Rover Sport. It features a 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 13.7-inch digital instrument cluster, with both displays receiving EV-specific information.

The SUV retains a five-seat layout and gets features including:

– Four-zone climate control
– Wireless smartphone charging
– Rear sunblinds
– Heated and ventilated front and rear seats
– Touch-sensitive steering wheel controls

India launch and expected price

The Range Rover Sport Electric is expected to reach India by March 2027 as a fully imported model. JLR expects the SUV to be priced at around Rs 2.5 crore.

This would put it significantly above the current non-SV Range Rover Sport, which is priced between Rs. 1.43 crore and Rs. 1.60 crore. The electric SUV will also not qualify for tariff concessions under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement, according to the information provided.
