MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Launched, Priced From Rs. 25.70 Lakhs

JSW MG Motor India has introduced the Hector Tomahawk PHEV in India at an introductory price of Rs. 25.70 lakhs (ex-showroom). Positioned as a plug-in hybrid alternative to conventional petrol and diesel SUVs, the new model is claimed to offer more than 115 km of electric-only driving range and over 40 km/l in combined fuel efficiency.

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is available exclusively as a seven-seater. MG claims that with a fully charged battery and a full fuel tank, the SUV can cover more than 1100 km under its claimed operating range. Bookings have opened, while customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in November 2026.

The PHEV joins the electric version of the Hector Tomahawk in MG’s latest SUV portfolio and brings plug-in hybrid technology to a mainstream SUV in the Indian market.

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Price And BaaS Option

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is priced at Rs. 25.70 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the introductory period. MG is also offering the SUV through its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership programme.

Under BaaS, the starting vehicle price is Rs. 21.79 lakhs, with an additional battery rental charge of Rs. 3.20 per kilometre. MG says the introductory prices are available only for a limited number of bookings.

The company has started accepting bookings, while deliveries are expected to commence in November.

Dimensions And Seating

Unlike the all-electric Hector Tomahawk, which is available in different seating configurations, the PHEV is being offered solely as a seven-seat SUV.

The SUV measures 4745 mm in length, 1850 mm in width and 1770 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2810 mm.

These dimensions make the Hector Tomahawk PHEV longer than some of its established three-row rivals. The SUV measures more than the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari in overall length and wheelbase, although its positioning and powertrain distinguish it from those conventional SUVs.

Petrol Engine And Electric Motor

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with a 20.5kWh battery pack and a permanent-magnet electric motor.

The petrol engine develops 102 HP and 125 Nm, while the electric motor is rated at 201 HP and 237 Nm. MG has not provided a combined system output figure, so the individual motor and engine outputs should not be added directly to determine the total power available from the hybrid system.

The powertrain uses a dedicated hybrid transmission with an e-clutch. MG claims a thermal efficiency of 43.2 per cent for the petrol engine.

Four Hybrid Driving Modes

The plug-in hybrid system can operate in four different modes. In EV mode, the electric motor alone drives the wheels. Series hybrid mode uses the petrol engine primarily to generate electricity, with propulsion handled by the electric motor.

Parallel hybrid mode allows both the engine and electric motor to contribute to propulsion, while engine direct-drive mode uses the petrol engine to drive the wheels directly, particularly when operating conditions favour reduced energy-conversion losses.

The system can switch between these operating modes automatically. MG says the transition can take as little as 0.1 seconds, depending on factors such as vehicle speed, accelerator input, battery charge level and road conditions.

This approach is intended to balance electric driving capability with the longer-distance flexibility of a petrol engine.

Electric Range And Charging

The 20.5kWh battery gives the Hector Tomahawk PHEV a claimed electric-only range of more than 115 km. MG also claims a combined range of over 1100 km when the battery is fully charged and the fuel tank is full.

Charging options include a 3.3kW AC connection, which can replenish the battery from 10 to 100 per cent in approximately 7.5 hours. The SUV also supports 25kW DC charging, with MG claiming a 30 to 80 per cent charge time of around 35 minutes.

The combination of a relatively large battery for a hybrid SUV and a petrol engine allows the Tomahawk PHEV to be used as an EV for shorter daily journeys while retaining the ability to travel longer distances without depending entirely on charging infrastructure.

With its seven-seat layout, plug-in hybrid powertrain and introductory pricing, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV enters a segment where most alternatives continue to rely on conventional internal-combustion or standard hybrid technology.
