Hyundai Motor India has inaugurated its manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Pune, marking an expansion of its production operations beyond Tamil Nadu. The company plans to invest Rs. 11,000 crore at the facility in phases, with installed annual vehicle production capacity set to increase from 1.7 lakh units currently to 3.2 lakh units by 2030.
The plant was inaugurated on October 14, 2026, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung and Hyundai Motor Company President and CEO Jose Munoz.
Hyundai Motor India Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg announced the investment as part of the company’s manufacturing expansion plans. The facility is expected to contribute to the company’s production capacity, export operations and supplier network in Maharashtra.
Hyundai Pune Plant: Investment and Production Capacity
The Talegaon facility currently has an annual installed production capacity of 1.7 lakh vehicles. Hyundai intends to raise this to 3.2 lakh units by 2030 through phased investments and capacity expansion.
The plant also houses an engine manufacturing unit with an annual production capacity of 1.5 lakh units.
Once the planned expansion is completed, Hyundai Motor India’s combined annual production capacity at its Pune and Chennai facilities is expected to reach approximately 11.4 lakh units by 2030. The increase would provide additional manufacturing capacity as the company develops its domestic and export operations.
The Rs. 11,000 crore investment is planned in phases. The company has not specified a detailed breakdown of the investment across individual projects in the information provided.
Hyundai Venue to Be Manufactured at Pune
The Hyundai Venue will be produced exclusively at the Talegaon plant, according to the company. Vehicles manufactured at the facility will also be exported to international markets, with Hyundai planning to expand the model’s availability to more than 35 countries.
The Venue’s production at Pune will form part of Hyundai’s wider export operations from India. The company has also marked cumulative exports of 40 lakh passenger vehicles since 1999, alongside domestic passenger vehicle sales approaching one crore over its 30 years of operations in the country.
The new facility’s role in manufacturing an export-oriented model could support Hyundai’s efforts to serve international markets from India. However, the actual contribution to export volumes will depend on production schedules and demand across individual markets.
Digital Manufacturing and Production Technology
The Talegaon plant uses Hyundai’s E-FOREST digital factory platform, which incorporates technologies for production monitoring and quality control.
The systems include artificial intelligence-based quality inspections, predictive maintenance, digital simulations and augmented reality-based training for workers. The production lines are designed to accommodate multiple internal combustion engine and hybrid models.
The use of these systems is intended to support manufacturing processes and quality management. Their operational impact will depend on how the technologies are deployed across production lines as output increases.
Supplier Network and Employment in Maharashtra
Hyundai said 55 Tier-1 suppliers have invested nearly Rs 4,600 crore in Maharashtra. Almost half of the company’s supplier network is located within a 50km radius of the Talegaon facility.
According to the company, its combined Tier-1 and Tier-2 supplier network has generated more than 18,000 employment opportunities in the state. The concentration of suppliers around the plant could help support component logistics and manufacturing operations, although the scale of additional employment linked directly to the planned expansion has not been specified.
Hyundai has also reported nearly 40 ongoing research projects with seven Indian academic institutions. These projects cover areas including battery technology, electrification and future mobility.
Hyundai’s Manufacturing Expansion in India
The Pune plant adds another manufacturing location to Hyundai Motor India’s existing operations in Chennai. The planned capacity increase to 3.2 lakh units at Talegaon by 2030 forms part of the company’s broader production expansion.
The investment comes as automakers continue to develop manufacturing capacity for domestic sales and exports, while preparing for changes in powertrain technology and vehicle demand.
The long-term impact of Hyundai’s expansion will depend on how quickly the plant reaches its planned capacity, the performance of export markets and the company’s future product strategy. For now, the inauguration establishes Talegaon as an additional manufacturing base, with the Venue identified as its exclusive vehicle production programme.
