Stellantis has announced an additional investment of around Rs. 4000 crore in India over the next three years, alongside plans to introduce 12 new and updated models across its Jeep and Citroen brands. The upcoming portfolio will comprise seven all-new vehicles and five major product upgrades, with the first launch scheduled for the second quarter of 2027.
The latest investment will take Stellantis’ cumulative spending in India to approximately Rs. 15,000 crore by 2030, up from more than Rs. 11,000 crore invested so far. The company aims to expand its product range, strengthen its retail and service network, and increase localisation across its operations.
Jeep and Citroen to Get 12 Product Updates
Of the 12 planned introductions, Jeep will account for five models, while Citroen will contribute seven. Stellantis has not disclosed the names of the upcoming vehicles or provided a model-wise launch schedule.
The planned portfolio will cover multiple segments, including B-, C- and D-segment SUVs, an MPV, an A-segment passenger car and a premium pickup truck. The announcement includes both new products and major upgrades to existing models, although the company has not clarified how the launches will be distributed across the two brands.
Jeep is expected to focus on the premium SUV segment, while Citroen will target mainstream categories with greater volume potential. Further details about individual models, powertrain options and launch dates are expected to be announced closer to their respective introductions.
Multiple Powertrain Options Under Consideration
Stellantis plans to adopt a multi-powertrain strategy for its upcoming Indian portfolio. Depending on the vehicle segment and market requirements, the range could include petrol and diesel engines, conventional hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery-electric vehicles.
The company says its decisions will be influenced by factors such as customer demand, affordability, regulatory requirements and charging infrastructure. However, the announcement does not specify which upcoming models will receive particular powertrain options.
This approach leaves room for different technologies across the portfolio rather than committing the two brands to a single propulsion strategy.
Focus on Localisation and Dealership Expansion
Alongside the product launches, Stellantis plans to expand its combined Jeep and Citroen sales and service network. The company intends to improve customer reach, after-sales support and parts availability, while using its Stellantis Brand House format to enter selected Tier-2, Tier-3 and Tier-4 markets.
The group has also set a localisation target of 90% across the two brands. Greater domestic sourcing could support its manufacturing operations and help manage costs, although the company has not provided a detailed timeline for achieving the target.
Stellantis currently operates three manufacturing facilities in India: Ranjangaon in Maharashtra, and Thiruvallur and Hosur in Tamil Nadu. It also has engineering and software development teams in Bengaluru.
India to Remain an Export Base
Exports will continue to form part of Stellantis’ India strategy. The company currently exports vehicles manufactured in India to around 50 countries, while approximately 95% of the engines and gearboxes produced at its Hosur facility are shipped overseas.
The group intends to use its Indian operations to support its wider Asia-Pacific business, including the development and export of locally engineered vehicles.
The planned investment and product introductions represent a broader expansion of Stellantis’ presence in India. However, the impact on its market position will depend on the pricing, specifications and competitiveness of the upcoming models, as well as the pace of dealership expansion and the execution of its localisation plans.
