Mahindra Thar 3-Door Launched At Rs 10.32 Lakh, The OG!

Mahindra has launched the new Thar 3-Door in India with prices starting at Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). Called the Thar OG, the new model keeps the familiar three-door design but gets several updates to make it more comfortable, capable and easier to use every day. Deliveries for the Mahindra Thar OG will begin from October 11, 2026.

The Thar OG is available in three variants – AXT, LXT and ZXT. Prices start at Rs 10.32 lakh for the AXT and go up to Rs 18.99 lakh for the top-spec ZXT. These are introductory prices and are valid for deliveries until November 30, 2026.

The Thar gets three engine options. The entry-level 1.5-litre diesel produces 119 PS and 300 Nm and is available with a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The 2.2-litre diesel produces 152 PS and 330 Nm, while the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol produces 162 PS and 330 Nm. The larger diesel and petrol engines are available with manual and automatic gearbox options, along with 4×4 depending on the variant.

The new Thar is based on Mahindra’s M_Glyde 4G platform and gets a new rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link. It also gets DAVINCI damping technology with Frequency Dependent Damping, which is designed to improve ride comfort. Electric power steering has also been added to make the SUV easier to manoeuvre, especially in the city.

For off-road driving, the 4×4 versions get an Electronic Locking Differential and dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes. The Thar also gets Terrain Assist on the rear-wheel-drive versions equipped with the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines.

The design remains instantly recognisable but gets several updates. The Thar OG gets a new grille, circular LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with cornering function and new LED tail-lamps. The top-spec version gets new 19-inch alloy wheels, while the cabin gets Truffle Brown leatherette seats and a soft second-row armrest with a cupholder.

Features include a 26.03-cm HD touchscreen, colour MID, cruise control, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Thar also gets a washable floor with drain plugs on 4×4 versions.

Safety has received a major upgrade as well. The Thar OG gets six airbags, including four Head, Pelvis, Thorax and Shoulder airbags for the front and rear passengers. It also gets all-four disc brakes, ESP with rollover mitigation and front parking sensors. The top-spec ZXT gets additional features such as a rear-view camera and tyre pressure monitoring system.
