Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric India Launch By End-2026, Bookings In October

Mercedes-Benz is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in India with the new-generation GLC Electric, with bookings set to open in the first week of October 2026. The electric SUV is expected to be launched in India towards the end of the year and will be assembled locally.

Mercedes-Benz says the GLC Electric will be among the quickest global models to reach India as a locally assembled vehicle, arriving around six months after its European sales debut. Local production could also help the company position the electric SUV more competitively in the Indian luxury EV market.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: Powertrain And Range

For India, the GLC Electric will be available in the 400 4Matic configuration. It uses a 94kWh NMC battery pack and a dual-motor setup, providing all-wheel drive.

The powertrain develops a combined 490 HP and 800 Nm, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in a claimed 4.3 seconds. Mercedes-Benz has also confirmed rear-wheel steering as standard, which should improve manoeuvrability at lower speeds while potentially adding stability during faster driving.

The GLC 400 4Matic has a claimed WLTP range of up to 715 km. As with other WLTP figures, the actual range in Indian driving conditions is likely to vary depending on factors such as speed, traffic, weather and driving style.

Interestingly, India will get the standard-wheelbase version of the GLC Electric, with a wheelbase of 2972 mm. Mercedes-Benz offers a longer-wheelbase version in China, but the company has not opted for that configuration for the Indian market.

GLC Electric Gets Distinctive Design

The GLC Electric follows Mercedes-Benz’s latest design direction while retaining familiar SUV proportions. Key styling elements include star-themed LED lighting signatures, an illuminated grille and rounded bodywork.

Depending on the variant, the SUV can also be equipped with sportier AMG Line exterior elements and wheels measuring up to 21 inches. At the rear, the LED lighting is connected by a full-width design element, giving the SUV a distinctive appearance.

39.1-Inch MBUX Hyperscreen Headlines Cabin

The biggest talking point inside the GLC Electric is Mercedes-Benz’s 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. The display stretches across the dashboard and integrates the instrument cluster, central infotainment display and passenger screen into a single visual unit.

The system runs on a newer generation of Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX interface and incorporates an AI-powered assistant. Despite the highly digital cabin, Mercedes-Benz has retained physical controls for several functions, including elements on the steering wheel and centre console.

The interior also combines digital displays with more conventional materials, including wood-effect trim on parts of the centre console and dashboard.

Local Assembly Could Influence Pricing

Mercedes-Benz has not yet announced pricing for the GLC Electric in India. Given its local assembly, the SUV could have an advantage over fully imported electric luxury SUVs, although the final price will depend on the extent of localisation and equipment levels.

The GLC Electric is expected to be positioned in the Rs. 80 lakh-90 lakh range, ex-showroom, though this remains an estimate until Mercedes-Benz officially reveals the price.

The electric SUV will face increasing competition as the premium EV segment expands. Among the upcoming rivals is the BMW iX3, which is expected to arrive in India in 2027 and will reportedly be offered in a long-wheelbase configuration.

With a combination of a claimed 715 km range, strong performance, all-wheel drive and local assembly, the GLC Electric has the specifications to make a significant entry into India’s luxury EV space. Its eventual positioning, however, will depend heavily on pricing and the equipment offered in the Indian-spec model.
