BMW i5 Long Wheelbase Launched In India At Rs. 79.60 Lakhs

BMW has launched the i5 Long Wheelbase in India at Rs. 79.60 lakhs (ex-showroom). The electric sedan is being locally manufactured at BMW Group’s Chennai plant, making it the company’s first locally produced electric sedan for the Indian market. Deliveries are set to begin immediately.

The i5 eDrive35L is available in India in M Sport guise, while a limited First Edition is also offered at the same introductory price. The First Edition is restricted to 99 units, all of which were sold before the model’s official launch.

BMW i5 LWB: battery, range and performance

The i5 eDrive35L uses a single electric motor integrated with the transmission and power electronics. It produces 268 HP and 410 Nm, with BMW claiming a 0-100 km/hr acceleration time of 6.7sec and a top speed of 195 km/hr.

Power comes from an 81.6kWh battery pack, which provides a claimed range of up to 669 km under the MIDC testing cycle. The sedan supports DC fast charging at up to 160kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in a claimed 33 minutes.

BMW is also offering a wallbox charger with the vehicle. The home charger supports charging at up to 11kW.

BMW i5 LWB: dimensions and exterior

The long-wheelbase version measures 5175 mm in length, 2156 mm in width and 1520 mm in height, with a 3105 mm wheelbase. BMW positions the model as one of the largest cars in its segment, with the extended wheelbase primarily aimed at improving rear-seat space.

The exterior gets BMW’s illuminated kidney grille, adaptive LED headlights and L-shaped LED tail-lights. Other design elements include 20-inch M alloy wheels, flush-fitting door handles, black side skirts and a revised interpretation of the Hofmeister kink.

The i5 LWB is offered in four metallic paint options: Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Carbon Black and Oxide Grey.

BMW i5 LWB: interior and features

The cabin uses a fully vegan Veganza upholstery, with the standard interior combining Copper Brown and Atlas Grey. The dashboard features BMW’s curved display, comprising a 12.3-inch instrument screen and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen.

Other equipment includes the BMW Interaction Bar, CraftedClarity crystal elements, ventilated front comfort seats and four-zone climate control. A panoramic Sky Lounge glass roof is also standard, along with a Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system.

The rear compartment is a key focus of the long-wheelbase model, with additional legroom and cushioning aimed at chauffeur-driven use. BMW also offers tablet mounting options and a Travel & Comfort system for rear passengers.

BMW i5 LWB: First Edition

The limited First Edition is based on the same i5 eDrive35L M Sport and costs Rs. 79.60 lakhs. Its additional equipment includes a rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and holder, along with BMW Individual Silver Bronze accents, open-pore Fineline wood trim and a First Edition engraving on the dashboard.

The special version is finished in Carbon Black Metallic with Titanium Bronze exterior accents. Despite the additional equipment and limited production, BMW has priced the First Edition at the same level as the standard variant.

BMW i5 LWB: suspension and safety

The i5 Long Wheelbase gets adaptive rear-axle air suspension and increased ground clearance, with BMW tuning the setup for Indian road conditions. The car also features comfort suspension and a 50:50 weight distribution.

Driver-assistance equipment includes active cruise control with Stop & Go, lane-change warning, cross-traffic warning, front and rear collision warning, exit warning and reverse assistance. Parking Assistant Professional, Remote Parking and Manoeuvring Assistant are also available.

Safety equipment includes eight airbags, electronic stability control, side-impact protection, an electronic parking brake with auto hold and active pedestrian protection.

BMW offers a two-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, while the high-voltage battery is covered for eight years or 1,60,000km. Extended warranty and service packages are available separately.
