Kia Sorento Launched In India, Priced From Rs. 27.99 Lakhs

Kia has launched the Sorento in India with introductory prices ranging from Rs. 27.99 lakhs to Rs. 40.19 lakhs (ex-showroom). The three-row SUV is manufactured at the company’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh and is based on the facelifted fourth-generation Sorento, which made its global debut in 2023.

The Sorento is Kia’s flagship internal-combustion SUV in the Indian market and is available in six trims: HTE, HTE(O), HTK, HTK(A), HTX and HTX(A). Buyers can choose between a turbo-petrol strong-hybrid powertrain and a diesel engine, while all-wheel drive is available on the higher-spec HTX and HTX(A) variants.

Kia Sorento: engine and gearbox options

The strong-hybrid version combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor. The petrol engine produces 180 HP and 265 Nm, while the electric motor is rated at 65 HP and 264 Nm. A 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox is used, with the powertrain available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations depending on the variant.

The diesel-powered Sorento uses a 2.2-litre engine developing 193 HP and 442 Nm. It is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and, like the hybrid, can be specified with either front- or all-wheel drive.

Four driving modes – Normal, Eco, Sport and Smart – are standard across the range. AWD-equipped versions additionally get Snow, Sand and Mud terrain modes.

Kia Sorento: exterior design

The Sorento gets Kia’s latest design treatment, including a prominent Tiger-nose grille with a honeycomb pattern and vertically arranged LED headlamps. The lighting signature incorporates Y-shaped daytime running lamps, while the front bumper features broad central air intakes and LED fog lamps.

The SUV has an upright profile and is equipped with 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. Black cladding runs along the lower portion of the body, while roof rails, chrome window surrounds and satin-finished exterior detailing add to its appearance.

At the rear, the Sorento features wraparound LED tail-lamps, a centrally positioned Kia wordmark and a roof spoiler. The bumper incorporates dual exhaust outlets and a silver-finish skid-plate-style element.

The India-spec SUV measures 4815 mm in length, 1900 mm in width and 1785 mm in height with the roof rails. Its wheelbase measures 2815 mm.

Kia Sorento: interior and features

The Sorento’s cabin is available with grey-and-black or brown-and-black colour schemes. The dashboard incorporates two 12.3-inch displays, serving as the instrument cluster and infotainment system respectively. The screens can be customised with themes based on Marvel, Disney and Pixar characters, marking a first for Kia’s India range.

A touch-sensitive control panel below the infotainment display allows users to switch between infotainment and climate functions. Other cabin highlights include a rotary gear selector, wireless smartphone charging, a powered start/stop button and physical steering-wheel controls.

The Sorento is offered in both six- and seven-seat configurations. The six-seat version uses captain chairs for the second row, while the seven-seat model gets a bench. Front seats feature ventilation, 10-way electric adjustment and lumbar support, while the second row can be electrically folded. The six-seat variant also gets ventilation for its middle-row seats.

Equipment includes a 12-speaker Bose audio system, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, head-up display and powered tailgate. Kia also offers features such as a digital inside rear-view mirror, 360-degree camera, auto parking assistance, front and rear dashcams and tyre-pressure monitoring.

The Sorento gets 10 airbags and Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems, adding a broad range of active and passive safety features to the SUV.

In India, the Kia Sorento competes with three-row SUVs including the Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron.
