MG Hector Tomahawk EV Launched, Priced From Rs. 19.49 Lakhs

JSW MG Motor India has introduced the Hector Tomahawk EV in the Indian market, with prices starting at Rs. 19.49 lakhs (ex-showroom). The electric SUV is also available through the company’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model, which brings the initial purchase price down to Rs. 13.99 lakhs, excluding the battery rental.

The Hector Tomahawk EV is available in both five- and seven-seat configurations and uses a 69.2kWh battery pack. MG claims a MIDC range of 517km. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in September.

The SUV is the first MG model in India to use the company’s ADAPT architecture and will compete primarily with electric SUVs offering three-row seating, including the Mahindra XEV 9S and Kia Carens Clavis EV.

MG Hector Tomahawk EV Price And Variants

The Hector Tomahawk EV is priced between Rs. 19.49 lakhs and Rs. 23.49 lakhs (ex-showroom). The five-seat version is offered exclusively in the top-spec Essence trim, while the seven-seat configuration can be purchased in Excite, Exclusive and Essence variants.

Under the BaaS programme, the Hector Tomahawk EV has an introductory starting price of Rs. 13.99 lakhs. Customers choosing this option pay a separate battery usage fee of Rs. 4.90 per kilometre. MG says these introductory prices are available only for a limited number of units, while variant-specific BaaS pricing has not been announced.

Exterior Design And Dimensions

The Hector Tomahawk EV gets a closed-off front fascia, reflecting its electric powertrain. LED projector headlamps and daytime running lights are positioned around an illuminated MG badge.

The SUV rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and features roof rails, black body cladding and an electrically operated tailgate. At the rear, wraparound LED tail-lamps and a sculpted bumper distinguish the EV.

Measuring 4745 mm in length, 1850 mm in width and 1770 mm in height, the SUV has a wheelbase of 2810 mm and 230 mm of ground clearance.

Boot capacity varies depending on the seating configuration. The five-seat version offers 610 litres, while the seven-seat model provides 192 litres with all three rows occupied. Folding the third row increases capacity to 528 litres.

Cabin And Equipment

The cabin features a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging and gesture controls are among the technology features.

Other equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, multi-colour ambient lighting, a 10-speaker Infinity audio system, rear window sunshades and a powered tailgate. The driver’s seat gets memory functionality along with automatic retract functionality.

MG has also included several cabin-oriented modes, including Camp, Nap, Energise, Valet, Quiet and Pro Pet modes.

Safety equipment includes six airbags as standard, along with a 360-degree camera offering additional views such as transparent-chassis and wheel-view functions.

The SUV is equipped with 11 ADAS functions and Level 2 driver-assistance capability. Features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and prevention, and high-beam assist.

Battery, Performance And Charging

Power comes from a 69.2kWh battery connected to a front-mounted electric motor producing 204 HP and 310 Nm. MG claims a 0-100 km/hr acceleration time of 8.2 seconds and a maximum claimed range of 517 km under the MIDC testing cycle.

The Hector Tomahawk EV uses a CCS2 charging interface and supports DC fast charging at up to 90kW. According to MG, charging from 30 to 80 per cent takes approximately 35 minutes using a compatible 90kW DC charger.

Using a 7.4kW AC charger, a 10 to 100 per cent charge takes approximately 12.5 hours. A portable charger compatible with a conventional 15A socket is also available.

V2L, V2V And V2H Functions

The Hector Tomahawk EV supports bidirectional charging-related functions. Its vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability can be used to supply electricity to compatible external equipment and appliances.

It also supports vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging, allowing the SUV to transfer energy to another electric vehicle. MG additionally claims that the Hector Tomahawk EV is India’s first vehicle-to-home (V2H) vehicle, allowing its battery to supply electricity to household appliances through a compatible two-way charging setup.

With a relatively large battery, three-row seating and a range of technology and charging functions, the Hector Tomahawk EV expands MG’s electric SUV line-up while targeting buyers looking for a family-oriented EV.
