BMW X1 LWB Launched At Rs. 49.90 Lakh, i5 LWB Bookings Open

BMW India has expanded its long-wheelbase portfolio with the launch of the new X1 LWB, while also opening bookings for the first-ever i5 LWB in the country.

The BMW X1 LWB has been launched at Rs. 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom), making it Rs. 1 lakh more affordable than the standard-wheelbase X1 petrol. It is available in a single sDrive 18Li variant with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 156 BHP and 230 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and drives the front wheels.

The biggest change over the standard X1 is the increased space. The X1 LWB is 116 mm longer, with 108 mm added to the wheelbase. This extra length has primarily been used to improve rear-seat space, with the rear bench getting more cushioning, a longer seat base and a reclining backrest.

The SUV also gets an M Sport styling package as standard, along with features such as adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, powered front seats and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Safety features include eight airbags and a range of ADAS functions.

BMW has also tweaked the suspension of the X1 LWB to focus more on ride comfort, making the stretched SUV more suited to customers who spend a lot of time being chauffeured around.

Alongside the X1 LWB launch, BMW India has opened bookings for the first-ever i5 LWB. The electric sedan will be locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai and will be the company’s first locally produced electric sedan in India.

The i5 LWB gets an 81.6 kWh battery pack and a 268 BHP electric motor, with a claimed range of up to 669 km (MIDC). It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The sedan measures 5175 mm in length and gets a 3105 mm wheelbase, making it one of the largest and most spacious cars in its segment, particularly for rear-seat passengers.

BMW will also offer a special i5 LWB First Edition, limited to just 99 customers. It gets a rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and tablet holder, along with exclusive Silver Bronze interior accents, Fineline open-pored fine-wood trim and First Edition detailing.

Bookings for the BMW i5 LWB are now open through BMW’s authorised dealer network, while customers can also register their interest on the BMW India website. Pricing for the i5 LWB has not yet been announced.
