BMW iX3 Revealed, Based On The Brand’s Neue Klasse X Concept

BMW unveiled its second-generation iX3 electric SUV, introducing the Neue Klasse EV range. The new iX3 takes inspiration from the 2024 Vision Neue Klasse X concept. BMW also presented the upcoming i3 sedan, which will be the next model in the Neue Klasse series.

Styling

The iX3 measures 4782mm in length, 1895mm in width, and 1635mm in height. Its drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd reflects extensive aerodynamic optimisation. At the front, the upright nose showcases vertically arranged BMW kidney grilles, reminiscent of Neue Klasse cars of the 1960s. It is complemented by slim headlights with a new light signature.

Flush-fitting door handles and squared-off wheel arches define the side profile. The rear showcases L-shaped taillights with segmented light sections, a sporty bumper, and a spoiler. Standard wheels are 20-inch alloys, with 22-inch options available.

Interior

Inside, the iX3 boasts a clean, minimalistic layout designed with seating for five occupants. Physical controls remain for key functions like indicators, wipers, and volume, while most features can be managed via voice commands or the multifunction steering wheel. The highlight is the new Panoramic Vision display spanning the windscreen’s base, projecting essential information such as SOC, drive mode, and temperature. A central 17.9-inch touchscreen runs BMW’s Operating System X, while large windows and an optional panoramic glass roof add to the airy cabin feel.

Battery Range

Equipped with a 108.7 kWh net battery, the new iX3 is compatible with 800V charging technology. It can support up to 400kW DC fast charging. In 10 minutes, 372km of range replenishes, charging from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes. On AC, the iX3 charges at 11kW as standard and a 22kW upgrade is available.

Battery Performance & Range

BMW will launch the iX3 50 xDrive variant with a dual-motor setup and all-wheel drive. This configuration produces 469 HP and 645 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/hr in 4.9 seconds. It reaches a top speed of 210 km/hr.

The iX3’s WLTP-certified range is between 679 km and 805 km. It can tow up to 2000kg with an optional hitch. There are a variety of sustainable fabrics and leather trims to choose from. Additionally, the M Sport versions include sport seats, an M steering wheel, and high-gloss black accents.

Practicality

Practicality is also strong, with 520 litres of boot space. It is expandable to 1750 litres with the rear seats folded, plus an additional 58-litre front storage compartment. The BMW iX3 symbolises range, performance, design, and practicality to set the tone for the Neue Klasse lineup.
