Kia is preparing to expand the Carens Clavis EV lineup with a new HTM variant tailored for the commercial taxi market. This move comes shortly after the launch of the Carens Clavis EV in India, positioning the 7-seater electric MPV as a strong contender for fleet operators.
The HTM variant is expected to be priced at around Rs. 18.19 lakhs (ex-showroom), slightly higher than the current HTK+ 42 kWh model priced at Rs. 17.99 lakhs. Designed with commercial use in mind, the HTM trim will feature essential equipment such as a GPS tracker and a speed governor capped at 80 km/hr, ensuring compliance with taxi segment requirements.
Based on the HTK+ variant, the Carens Clavis EV HTM will retain premium features including LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, 16-inch Black High Gloss Aero alloy wheels and a dual-tone interior. The second-row seats will come with sliding and reclining functions, electric tumble capability and rear AC vents, enhancing passenger comfort. The dashboard setup will feature dual 12.25-inch screens, one for the digital instrument cluster and the other for the touchscreen infotainment system.
In terms of convenience and safety, the taxi variant is expected to include cruise control with manual speed limit assist, keyless entry, paddle shifters for i-Pedal and regenerative braking, front parking sensors, a rearview camera, steering-mounted audio controls and Virtual Engine Sound Noise (VESS).
Under the hood, the commercial version of the Carens Clavis EV will be powered by a 42 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of 404 km on a single charge. Its electric motor will deliver 133 BHP and 255 Nm of torque, ensuring a balance between performance and efficiency.
With this upcoming HTM variant, Kia aims to capture a share of the growing electric taxi segment by offering a feature-packed, long-range EV tailored to fleet needs.
