Skoda Kodiaq Launched, Priced From Rs. 46.8 Lakhs (ex-showroom), Cheaper Than Tiguan R-Line

Skoda has launched the Kodiaq. It is the brand’s flagship SUV. The Kodiaq’s pricing starts from Rs. 46.89 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the Sportline variant and Rs. 48.69 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the Selection L&K variant. This makes it cheaper than its sister, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line.

Exterior

Skoda has majorly revised the design of the Kodiaq. The SUV has sharp LED Headlights, an octagonal radiator grille with the horizontal light strip on the Selection L&K variant. There is black cladding on the wheel arches, dark chrome D-pillar, silver roof rails and C-shaped LED tail lights with a tail bar.

Trim Levels

The Kodiaq is offered in two trims: Sportline and Selection L&K (Laurin & Klement). The Sportline is a sporty take on the Kodiaq and has a blue exterior with blacked-out treatment and aggressive-looking wheels. The Selection L&K variant is a more elegant exterior and aero discs for the wheels.

Engine

The Skoda Kodiaq has the same engine in both trims, which is a 2.0-litre Turbocharged 4-cylinder. It produces 204 HP and 320 Nm of torque and is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. It is all-wheel-drive. There are also 6 driving modes, i.e. Eco, Normal, Sport, Offroad, Snow and Individual. They can alter the steering weight, power delivery and transmission response in specific scenarios.

Interior

The Skoda Kodiaq offers options for a luxurious or sporty interior appearance. The Selection L&K variant features cognac leather with a black theme, a 2-spoke steering wheel, and dark chrome accents. It includes 8-way power-adjusted ventilated seats with a massage function and a crème headliner.

The Sportline variant comes in an all-black theme with a 3-spoke steering wheel, Sports seats and Alcantara inserts on the dashboard and door cards. However, there is no ventilation or massage on the Sportline variant. There are 3 knobs to control climate control which can be configured to perform other functions such as seat heating and ventilation and volume.

In terms of features, the Kodiaq gets a 12.9-inch infotainment system with a 10.25-inch driver display. Additionally, it also has 3-zone climate control, Canton sound system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging and USB-C ports.

Outlook

The Skoda Kodiaq is likely to sell better than the Tiguan R-Line. This is because it is bigger and also cheaper than the German competitor, based on the same MQB platform. The Kodiaq overall is a well-rounded SUV with a premium factor and should be able to hold its ground well even though it faces competition from many models like the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian.
