Honda Elevate & Amaze Available With Retrofitted CNG Kits, Will Be Government Approved

Honda has launched CNG kits for the Amaze and Elevate models, responding to the long-term demand for CNG-powered vehicles in the country. Dealers can retrofit these government-approved CNG kits into the cars, as the respective models do not offer a CNG option with their petrol engines.

These retrofittable CNG kits are not listed on the HCIL website at present. Hence, the price for these kits is also unknown at present. The installation at the dealer level will be better regulated as the brand has assured trained professionals to tackle the process of installation. These kits should also offer a factory warranty.

The registration of the cars with these kits may be difficult, as the dealer would first need to register the vehicle as a petrol LMV (Light Motor Vehicle) and then a petrol CNG LMV (Light Motor Vehicle). The installation can be expected to be a little less efficient when compared to factory-fitted CNG options from the likes of Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Tata Tiago iCNG.

The 3rd generation Honda Amaze is powered by a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine producing 88 HP and 110 Nm of torque. The Honda Elevate is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine, which produces 119 HP and 145 Nm of torque. The power and torque may see a decrease as a result of the CNG kit.

Outlook

Honda has created an interesting way to react to the demand for cars with CNG. It is still undetermined if Honda will provide a City with the CNG kit as well. However, a factory-fitted CNG variant will help save the hassle for customers and dealers. It would also be a better integrated setup if the car is designed with the CNG kit rather than introducing it to the vehicle later in its life.
