Yangwan U9 Track Edition Sets New Top Speed Record Of 472.41 Km/hr, Surpasses The Previous Record Held By Aspark Owl At 438.7 Km/hr

BYD’s luxury sub-brand, Yangwang, has set a new global record with the U9 Track Edition. In Germany on August 8, the electric hypercar achieved an incredible speed of 472.41 km/hr! This achievement surpasses the previous EV record held by the Aspark Owl at 438.7 Km/hr.

Performance Upgrades

The U9 Track Edition utilises the same architecture as the standard U9 but incorporates performance upgrades. It employs a 1200-volt ultra-high-voltage platform combined with advanced thermal management. These technologies ensure stability and efficiency even under extreme performance conditions.

Battery Performance

A quad-motor system powers the car, delivering over 2958 HP, positioning it as one of the most powerful cars globally. Each motor spins up to 30,000 rpm and produces about 744 HP. This engineering enables extraordinary acceleration and record-breaking speed on the track.

Suspension Changes

For the Track Edition, Yangwang improved its DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System. It optimises suspension and body posture for high-speed cornering. During aggressive manoeuvres, this advanced system ensures precision handling and stability.

The Track Edition also features a torque-vectoring system capable of 100 adjustments per second. This prevents traction loss at high speeds. The aerodynamic upgrades incorporate a carbon-fibre front splitter, which replaces the standard rear wing for improved performance.

Use Of Track-Specific Tyres

Yangwang partnered with Giti Tire for track-specific semi-slick tyres. The tires utilise a bespoke tread and optimised compound to achieve maximum grip. Developing them was critical in achieving the U9’s record-breaking performance.

Yangwang’s accomplishment emphasises the rapid evolution of electric vehicle technology. EVs now seem closer than ever to breaking the 500 Km/hr (300 mph) barrier.
