VinFast India Hires 200 Local Professionals Ahead Of The Inauguration Of The Brand’s Manufacturing Plant In Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu

VinFast India has accelerated local employment in the Thoothukudi manufacturing plant, ahead of their launch. The brand announced the induction of 200 local professionals at its facility. The facility can generate employment for up to 3500 professionals over the next 5 years.

These employees will be trained to meet global automotive standards once they have onboarded. This initiative is executed with the help of Naan Mudhalvan, from the Government of Tamil Nadu’s flagship skilling program. The collaboration plays a crucial role in assisting local youth to develop industry-relevant competency, meeting workforce demands.

Tamil Nadu’s WorkLabs Cell also played an important role in focusing on the collaboration between industry and academia. WorkLabs helped to create links between academic institutions and industry talent requirements, which ensured a consistent pipeline of workforce. The onboarding initiative was possible with the help of the District Collector’s Office, Polytechnique Colleges, VinFast India Plant Directors and senior leadership.

There was a large recruitment drive that took place in April 2025, seeing more than 344 diploma students in the region. The selection process included a two-month institutional training program and various interviews, as well as assessments.

The brand’s workforce strategy involves an 80:20 model, where 80% workforce will be trainees or freshers, whereas the remaining 20% workforce comprises experienced Indian and former employees from rival manufacturers.
