Toyota RAV4 Revealed In Tokyo, Available With A New GR Sport Version

Toyota revealed the RAV4 in Tokyo. The new RAV4 includes new styling, a new GR Sport version, and improved hybrid powertrains. Toyota also added a new Arene operating system and infotainment system.

Styling

Toyota incorporated a ‘Hammerhead’ design for the RAV4 headlights and taillights, delivering an imposing look. This is similar to the Toyota Camry, and the overall silhouette is similar to the Land Cruiser. The RAV4 comes with wheels measuring from 17 to 19 inches, depending on the market.

Interior

The most notable change in the RAV4 occurs on the inside. The Toyota RAV4 gets a 12.9-inch infotainment system with the Arene operating system. It is similar to Android or iOS operating systems, which will be available on all future Toyota models. Not to mention, this operating system will enable an easier integration of new features.

These features can now arrive in the form of over-the-air updates. A new rear-approach monitor under the safety kit also enables merging onto highways more easily. According to Toyota, customers can download performance packs replicating the setup and performance of other cars, as well as those from Lexus, with over-the-air updates.

Powertrain Options

The Toyota RAV4 is powered by a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with various combinations, depending on the markets. The petrol engine with FWD produces 268 HP, and the plug-in hybrid engine with AWD produces 304 HP. The PHEV AWD version does 0-100 Km/hr in 5.8 seconds.

The PHEV uses a 22.7 kWh battery pack that delivers a range of 100 Km (WLTP). It charges from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes, utilising fast DC charging.

The strong hybrid RAV4 in FWD form produces 183 HP, available in European markets. The engine produces 191 HP in AWD form. Additionally, the Japanese market will also get a 2.0-litre petrol engine with AWD, producing 171 HP.

Toyota RAV4 GR Sport & Adventure

Toyota has also introduced a RAV4 GR Sport. It features sportier enhancements like lightweight 20-inch alloy rims, a 20mm wider track with different dampers and stiffer springs. The interior gets bucket-like sports seats, aluminium pedals, and GR badging.

A few markets will also receive the RAV4 Adventure version. It gets a more upright front grille, wider track, and aggressive wheel cladding.
