April 2025 was a profitable month for the Indian automotive industry, as four major OEMs – Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra – recorded the highest number of PVs (passenger vehicles) sales. In fact, the EV (electric vehicle) sales saw a significant 58 percent increase, reaching a total of 12,330 units. Tata Motors continues to lead the EV segment with a 36% share, followed by JSW MG Motor (28%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (24%). SUVs remained in high demand, with Hyundai, Maruti, Mahindra and Tata dominating the chart.

Key Findings:

– The Hyundai Creta topped the sales chart with total sales of 17,016 units, registering a YoY (Year-on-Year) sales growth of 10.2 percent. Since January, the South Korean carmaker managed to sell 69,914 units of the Creta SUV.

– Maruti Suzuki’s Brezza secured the second spot with 16,971 units sold, trailing just 45 units behind the Creta.

– The Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Nexon had a tough fight, with the Scorpio narrowly leading. A total of 15,534 units of the Scorpio SUV sold in April 2025, while Tata Nexon closely with 15,457 units.

– The Maruti Fronxis one of thetop 5 SUVs in April 2025. This subcompact SUV, favoured for its compact built, features, efficiency and drivability, achieved sales of 14,345 units.

Which BIG name missed the list?

The Tata Punch failed to made it to the list this month. The micro SUV had consistently ranked among the top 5 best-selling SUVs throughout 2024. By January 2025, it had achieved cumulative sales of over 500,000 units in the country.
