May 2025 top 25 car sales list revealed, Maruti Dzire tops the chart. There are 9 Maruti cars in this list, followed by 5 cars from Mahindra, 4 cars from Hyundai, 3 from Tata Motors, 2 from Kia and Toyota each.
In a notable shift in consumer preferences, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire emerged as India’s best-selling car in May 2025, recording dispatches of 18,084 units. This achievement is significant, given that sedans have seldom led the monthly sales charts in recent years. The Dzire’s strong performance follows a facelift introduced in November 2024, which has contributed to consistent monthly volumes exceeding 16,000 units.
The Dzire’s popularity has been boosted by both private buyers and fleet operators, enabling it to surpass models such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Ertiga and Maruti Brezza. Its broad appeal across segments has cemented its position at the top, reflecting a well-rounded product update that resonates with a wide customer base.
Following closely behind, the Maruti Ertiga secured the second position in the May 2025 sales rankings with 16,140 units. The MPV continues to perform steadily in the market, appreciated for its versatility and value proposition. The Maruti Brezza, which ranked third, held the distinction of being the highest-selling SUV during the month with 15,566 units. This positions Maruti Suzuki with a diverse mix of body styles—sedan, MPV and SUV—dominating the top three slots.
Hyundai Creta, the best selling car in April, slipped down to the fourth position in May with 14,860 units despatched. Mahindra Scorpio siblings hold the fifth spot with a combined number of 14,401 units despatched.
On the other hand, models such as the Maruti Swift, Tata Punch, and Maruti Grand Vitara experienced a significant drop in year-on-year volumes, each witnessing over a 25% decline. The slump indicates market pressures and potential shifts in consumer preferences, prompting corrective actions in inventory and production by their respective manufacturers.
Out of 25 cars in the list, 9 cars have witnessed negative year-on-year growth. What are your thoughts on the top 25 selling cars of May 2025. Let us know in the comments section below.
