Tata Harrier EV features all-wheel drive, claimed real-world range of over 500 km

Tata Motors is all set to introduce the electric iteration of its Harrier SUV on 3rd June, 2025. The upcoming Harrier EV was first seen in its production-ready form at the 2025 Auto Expo and will join Tata’s expanding EV portfolio alongside the Nexon EV, Punch EV and the upcoming Curvv EV.

Design and Exterior Features

The Harrier EV shares much of its styling with the recently updated diesel-powered Harrier. Its front fascia features vertically arranged LED headlights placed beneath slim, blade-like daytime running lights that stretch across the width of the vehicle. The side profile retains a muscular look with flared wheel arches and a distinctive floating roof effect, while the rear sports a connected light bar and vertically aligned indicators integrated into the bumper.

Exclusive EV design cues include a sealed-off upper grille and a reworked bumper reminiscent of the Curvv EV, highlighted with chrome detailing and housing a radar sensor. Aero-optimized “serrated turbine blade” alloy wheels—expected in sizes ranging from 17 to 19 inches—add to the electric SUV’s identity. ‘EV’ badges on the front doors and ‘HARRIER.EV’ lettering on the tailgate help distinguish it from its ICE sibling, while silver cladding adds a dash of contrast.

Interior and Features

Inside, the Harrier EV maintains the familiar layout seen in the Harrier facelift. It features a dual-tone dashboard, touch-based climate controls and a floating touchscreen infotainment system. A digital instrument cluster, rotary terrain mode selector, four-spoke steering wheel, electronic parking brake and a panoramic sunroof are also part of the package.

Additionally, the EV version is expected to introduce new terrain modes, enhanced connected car features and over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Platform and Powertrain

The Harrier EV is underpinned by Tata’s modified Omega architecture, updated extensively to suit electric applications. The platform—rebranded as Acti.ev (Gen 2)—features structural changes including a redesigned floor to accommodate the battery pack, as well as upgraded electronics and wiring systems.

The electric SUV will feature a dual-motor setup offering all-wheel drive—a configuration that would be more complex and cost-intensive in an ICE vehicle but is more feasible in an EV thanks to motor placement flexibility. Tata has confirmed that the rear motor will be more powerful, contributing to a system output of up to 500 Nm of torque.

While battery specifications are still under wraps, the Harrier EV is expected to pack a unit larger than the 55kWh battery found in the upcoming Curvv EV. Tata claims a real-world range of over 500 km, measured under its in-house C75 testing protocol.

Market Positioning

With a projected price range of Rs. 25–30 lakhs (ex-showroom), the Harrier EV is positioned as a flagship within Tata’s EV line-up. Its blend of premium features, long range and all-wheel drive capability aims to appeal to both urban users and those seeking a capable SUV for longer journeys.

As Tata Motors continues to transition toward electric mobility, the Harrier EV represents a significant step in electrifying its higher-end SUV offerings, further reinforcing the brand’s commitment to sustainable transportation.
