Skoda Auto has confirmed that the Octavia RS will be introduced in India later this year. The high-performance sedan is expected to arrive by the festive season and will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). Powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 265 HP, the new Octavia RS shares its powertrain with the latest Volkswagen Golf GTI.
The decision to bring in the Octavia RS comes amid strong interest from enthusiasts in India, many of whom remain loyal fans of the model. The previous generation RS 245, limited to 200 units in India, had sold out rapidly despite its premium pricing.
The new Octavia RS made its first public appearance at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025. However, due to its CBU status, pricing is expected to be above Rs. 50 lakhs (ex-showroom), placing it in the same premium performance category as the VW Golf GTI. Additionally, only limited units may be available initially, with Skoda adopting a measured approach to this launch.
While the Octavia RS launch is moving forward, Skoda has temporarily shelved its plans to introduce other models such as the Kodiaq RS and the diesel variants of the Octavia and Superb. These decisions are attributed to ongoing uncertainties related to Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), tariffs and broader geopolitical developments, which have made long-term planning for premium imports more complex.
Despite showcasing the Superb diesel at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year, the company is now prioritising a more cautious product strategy. Skoda’s current focus is on strengthening its local portfolio. The Kylaq compact SUV, in particular, has played a key role in this strategy by consistently delivering sales of around 5000 units monthly, helping Skoda climb to the seventh position in India’s automotive rankings. In March 2025, the brand recorded its highest-ever monthly sales at 7422 units.
Going forward, Skoda aims to maintain a consistent product lineup in India. Lifecycle updates for the Kushaq and Slavia are already in development and the brand is also working on expanding its sales and service network to reach a broader customer base.
