Shelby unveiled the Super Snake-R, transforming the Mustang Dark Horse into a track-focused monster, at the Monterey Car Week. The Ford Mustang Dark Horse embodies a beastly nature. However, Shelby American engineers have taken the muscle car to an extreme length.
Visually, the Super Snake-R looks far more aggressive than the Dark Horse. Carbon-fibre body panels reduce weight while sharpening its muscular profile. Buyers can select from five striking colours, including Race Red and Grabber Blue Metallic.
Despite the upgrades, the weight stands at a reasonable 1816 Kg.
Under the bonnet, a supercharger boosts the 5.0-litre Coyote V8’s output to over 850 HP, surpassing the current Super Snake. Buyers have the option to choose between a Tremec six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic.
Adjustable coilovers, lightweight alloy wheels, and wider Michelin performance tyres support that immense power. Two-piece slotted rotors ensure that braking performance matches straight-line speed. The huge rear spoiler increases downforce, keeping this beast firmly planted.
Inside, the cabin receives Shelby American’s performance-focused treatment. Bucket seats feature Alcantara and leather with bold Shelby branding. Manual-equipped models also gain a custom billet shift knob.
Pricing reflects the exclusivity and performance. The 2026 Super Snake-R starts at USD 225,995, including the donor Mustang Dark Horse. Compared to Ford’s USD 325,000 Mustang GTD, Shelby’s monster looks like a relative bargain.
