JLR delays Range Rover and Jaguar EVs to allow for extended testing

Jaguar Land Rover has delayed the launch timelines for several of its upcoming electric vehicles, including the highly anticipated Range Rover Electric and two new Jaguar EVs. Originally expected to begin deliveries by late 2025, the Range Rover Electric will now reach customers sometime in 2026, according to communication sent by the company to early buyers.

The delays come as JLR focuses on conducting extended testing and aligning with shifting market demand. The testing requirements are more extensive because these EVs represent JLR’s first in-house electric models.

The electric Jaguar models, expected to follow the brand’s recent rebranding, have also been postponed. The first electric Jaguar is now planned to enter production in August 2026, with a starting price expected to exceed £100,000. The second model could be pushed further to December 2027.

In addition to these flagship vehicles, JLR is working on a number of other electric offerings, including an electric Range Rover Velar and a Defender sub-brand EV. The Velar EV may begin production in April 2026, though sources suggest further delays are possible. A Defender EV could follow in early 2027.

JLR is also navigating external pressures. The company recently experienced a 15.1% drop in sales for the quarter ending in June 2025, attributed in part to U.S. tariffs and a temporary export pause. It has since introduced a voluntary redundancy program for up to 500 managerial roles to optimize costs.

However, the brand remains financially resilient, having reported profits for ten consecutive quarters. A recent limited trade deal between the UK and U.S. is expected to ease tariff burdens, which could support future sales recovery.

In a statement, a JLR spokesperson reiterated the company’s EV commitment: “By 2030, JLR will sell electric versions of all its luxury brands. Our plans and vehicle architectures are flexible, so we can adapt to different market and client demands. We are committed to the highest standards of design, capability and quality.”
