Porsche has been testing the 992 GT2 RS on the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife. The flagship Porsche 911 is ready to tear up the track, offering a thrilling racecar experience on the road. The GT2 RS essentially features the GT3 RS’ aero package but with a twin-turbocharged engine, unlike the naturally aspirated engine seen in the latter.
In terms of styling, the GT2 RS test mule shares similar styling with its naturally aspirated counterpart. However, distinctive changes include the front fenders extending outwards and the rear fenders receiving riveted arch extensions as well. Interestingly, the wheels don’t appear flush with the body, indicating a change to provide added grip and traction.
The sources suggest that a hybrid twin-turbo flat-6 will power the 992 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The GT2 RS of this generation is expected to produce 800 HP. This will make it the most powerful Porsche GT product in the lineup.
The new GT2 RS introduction will also likely break the Nurburgring lap record. The GT3 RS currently clocks a lap time of 6:49.33. It remains to be seen how Porsche improves upon this time.
The Porsche GT2 RS Manthey Racing held a lap record of 6:43:30. Currently, the lap record is in the hands of the Mercedes AMG One hypercar at 6:35.18. The GT2 RS will be cheaper than the Mercedes hypercar but still priced at EUR 450,000! This figure comes from a leaked configuration, which also shows that the 992 GT2 RS will be launched in 2026.
