The Nissan Magnite has earned a 5-star safety rating for adult occupant protection from Global NCAP after undergoing a series of voluntary crash tests. Manufactured in India for both domestic and export markets, including South Africa, the compact SUV was tested in its pre-facelift, facelift and further upgraded forms.
In its initial evaluation, the pre-facelift Magnite (produced before October 2024) was equipped with just two airbags, lacked ESC and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard and failed to meet pedestrian protection standards. Under the latest Global NCAP protocols, this version scored 2 stars for both adult and child occupant protection.
Subsequently, Nissan submitted the facelifted version of the Magnite for testing. This iteration came with six airbags, ESC and improved safety features. It earned 4 stars for adult and 4 stars for child occupant protection, with notable improvements in side impact and child seat installation scores. A side pole impact test was also introduced, with generally positive results except for chest protection, which was rated adequate.
Despite the improvement, Nissan voluntarily enhanced the model further and submitted the upgraded version for a third round of testing. This final version of the facelifted Magnite achieved a 5-star adult safety rating, scoring 32.31 out of 34 points in adult occupant protection. The child occupant protection score remained at 4 stars, consistent with the earlier facelift test.
Notably, the adult frontal offset deformable barrier test score rose to 15.307 out of 16, indicating solid protection for both driver and passenger. Other components of the evaluation, such as the side impact and pole tests, showed similar performance to the previous version.
