Aiming to reive its market, Honda Cars India has announced five new SUVs, slated to arrive by 2030. The Japanese automaker also plans to foray into the electric segment to challenge the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV and Maruti e Vitara. The new Honda electric SUV (codenamed DG9D) will be based on the Elevate and come under the brand’s ‘ACE’ (Asian Compact Electric) project. The new Honda electric SUV will hit our roads sometime next year.

Expected Battery, Range

The new Honda electric SUV is likely to come with a battery pack of around 40kWh – 50kWh, paired with a front-axle mounted electric motor. With the FWD system, this configuration is expected to deliver range of over 400km on a single charge.

Expected Features:

Since the new Honda electric SUV will be based on the Elevate, it will share the platform, design elements and features with its ICE counterpart. The EV is expected come with features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, auto-dimming IRVM, leatherette upholstery, a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, ADAS (Honda Sensing suite), lane watch camera, rear seatbelt reminder, G meter display, and more. Honda might also equip the electric Elevate with a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats and a 360-degree parking camera.

Platform & Performance

The Honda Elevate EV will be built on the same platform that underpins its ICE-powered version. The midsize SUV is claimed to have a “smooth and connected” structure, thanks to its higher tensile steel. This not only reduces the vehicle’s overall weight, but also enhances collision safety performance, stability and handling. The Elevate’s highly efficient body structure ensure smoother operations by stiffening up the C-pillars and rear tailgate opening area.

Export Plans:

Interestingly, the new Honda electric SUV or Elevate EV will be brand’s global product. It will be produced at Honda’s Tapukara manufacturing facility in Rajasthan. The made-of-India EV will be exported to multiple overseas markets, where the Amaze and City sedan are already present. Honda plans to export 50 to 70 percent of the EV’s total production.
