Mercedes Electric G-Class Is A ‘Complete Flop’, Only 1450 Sales In Europe

Mercedes is struggling to sell the electric G-Class. This comes with the help of a German sales report. Mercedes launched the electric G-Class with a lot of expectations, but those haven’t translated into real life.

The electric G580 has seen 1450 European sales, 61 South Korean sales, and just 58 sales in China. The latter is considered a heaven for EVs. Sales are so dismal that the German luxury brand is considering launching the “Baby G” in only ICE form.

Factors For Failure

Various reasons contribute to the failure of the electric G-Wagon. Manufacturers create traditional EVs on a unique platform, aerodynamic body, and flat floors. The G580 with EQ technology heavily relies on the regular G-Wagon.

The G-Wagon is also a heavy vehicle with only 385 Km of EPA-estimated range. This aspect makes it a challenging proposition against other electric luxury SUVs. Buyers prefer owning the G-Wagon with a big engine rather than an electric battery.

The petrol and diesel G-Wagon outsells the electric G-Class in good numbers. Mercedes launched the electric G580 in India in January 2025. The brand confirms selling the first allocation of units for the country.
