Mercedes-Benz has announced a fresh recall of four of its premium models in India, the EQS electric sedan, S-Class (including Maybach variants), GLC and AMG SL 55, due to a potential fire hazard linked to a faulty fuse box. This marks the third recall by the brand in India this year for similar thermal risk concerns and the sixth overall recall in 2025.
According to details published by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the issue lies in the fuse box, which may not have been reworked correctly during production. If the defect occurs, it can lead to the failure of critical vehicle systems such as propulsion, restraint mechanisms, and the instrument cluster, potentially increasing the risk of a crash or injuries. Additionally, the fault could result in a thermal incident, such as a fire, under certain conditions.
In this latest recall, a total of 30 vehicles are affected in the Indian market:
Mercedes-Benz is expected to contact the owners of affected vehicles to schedule inspections and repairs at no cost to the customer.
This recall aligns with a broader global issue, as nearly 93,000 vehicles were reportedly recalled in the United States over similar concerns. The continued emergence of such issues, particularly from a premium brand, has raised eyebrows.
This year, Mercedes-Benz India has already carried out five other recalls involving various models, including the AMG E 53, G-Class and AMG GT. While some recalls were due to thermal risks, others involved software issues and missing safety labels. The growing number of recalls within just six months underscores increased quality control scrutiny in the automotive sector, even among luxury manufacturers.
