Mahindra Thar Roxx has emerged as a major contributor to the company’s overall utility vehicle sales, commanding 68% of all Thar-branded vehicle sales in the first quarter of FY2026. Between April and June 2025, Mahindra dispatched 20,726 units of the Thar Roxx, significantly outperforming the original three-door Thar, which recorded 9908 units in the same period.
This strong performance has pushed combined Thar sales to 30,634 units in Q1 FY2026, making the Thar brand Mahindra’s second-highest selling SUV after the Scorpio N and Classic models. It also placed the Thar as the eighth best-selling SUV in India during the quarter.
The launch of the Thar Roxx in September 2024 brought a practical, family-friendly option to the Thar lineup, broadening the model’s appeal beyond off-road enthusiasts. Its larger size, improved comfort and mainstream utility have attracted a wider audience, including urban buyers looking for a rugged yet versatile vehicle.
While the original three-door Thar saw a year-on-year sales decline of 43% in Q1 FY2026, the Thar Roxx’s momentum has more than compensated for the drop, driving the brand up from fifth to second place in Mahindra’s SUV portfolio.
In FY2025, Mahindra’s top-selling models included the Scorpio twins, 3X0, Bolero, XUV700 and Thar. However, the Thar Roxx’s success has reshaped the internal rankings for FY2026, placing the Thar brand above long-time performers like the Bolero and XUV700.
Mahindra’s total SUV sales reached 152,057 units in Q1 FY2026, and the Thar duo accounted for 20% of this volume, up from 14% in the corresponding period last year. The rising popularity of the Thar Roxx has played a vital role in helping Mahindra achieve 22% year-on-year growth in UV sales.
This upward trend has narrowed Mahindra’s gap with market leader Maruti Suzuki in the UV segment. At the end of Q1 FY2026, Mahindra trailed Maruti by just 9801 units, a significant improvement compared to the 38,882-unit gap seen a year earlier.
