Kia is gearing up to introduce a significant update to its popular MPV offering, with the facelifted version of the Carens set to debut under a new name, the Kia Clavis, on May 8, 2025. Despite the major revision, the automaker will continue to sell the existing Carens alongside the upcoming Clavis, giving customers a broader range of options within the MPV segment.
The Clavis will bring with it a series of notable cosmetic upgrades, aligning it with Kia’s newer design language. Among the expected changes are revised headlights, a slimmer grille and updated bumpers — all of which point to a more contemporary appearance. At the rear, redesigned LED tail-lamps and a prominent lightbar are anticipated, likely echoing elements from models such as the Kia Seltos. The new look is expected to be completed by fresh alloy wheel designs.
Unlike the exterior overhaul, interior updates on the Clavis are predicted to be more restrained. While a full reveal is pending, minor trim revisions, new upholstery choices and enhanced colour schemes are likely additions. Kia appears focused on refining existing strengths rather than reinventing the cabin layout.
The Clavis is set to gain feature upgrades aimed at improving convenience and safety. Noteworthy introductions include a 360-degree camera system and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Depending on the variant, buyers may also benefit from a larger infotainment touchscreen, an all-digital instrument cluster and a panoramic sunroof, reinforcing the premium push in higher trims.
Under the hood, the Clavis is expected to retain the same engine options as the current Carens. This includes a trio of 1.5-litre engines:
These configurations ensure continuity in performance offerings for those familiar with the Carens lineup.
In addition to the internal combustion variants, Kia is also developing an all-electric version of the Clavis, though its debut will occur at a later date. This move signals Kia’s continued expansion into the electric mobility space.
While the existing Carens is priced between Rs. 10.60 lakhs and Rs. 19.70 lakhs (ex-showroom), the Clavis facelift is likely to be priced at a premium, with the top variants expected to exceed Rs. 20 lakhs. Once launched, the Clavis will continue to compete with segment rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Toyota Rumion.
