Kia Carens’ 8 Variants Discontinued

Kia has significantly revamped the lineup for the Carens since the launch of the Carens Clavis. The South Korean manufacturer has discontinued all variants of the Carens except the Premium (O) variant. This means that the Carens has reduced features and powertrain options.

Previously, the Kia Carens was offered in 9 variants, i.e. Premium, Premium (O), Gravity, Prestige, Prestige (O), Prestige Plus, Prestige Plus (O), Luxury Plus and X-Line. As of present, the Premium (O) is the only variant that is available. The Premium (O) is priced at Rs. 11.41 Lakh (ex-showroom).

This variant lacks ventilated seats, automatic climate control and alloy wheels. It also misses level 2 ADAS and leatherette upholstery. Additionally, it does not have ambient lighting, push-button start/stop, or cruise control. There is no sunroof or 6-seat configuration available.
The Premium (O) trim level is available with all three engines but no longer offers the 7-speed DCT, and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine, which produces 115 HP and the 1.5-litre diesel engine, which produces 116 HP, are mated to only the 6-speed manual transmission. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, which produces 160 HP, is only available with a 6-speed iMT powertrain combination.

Outlook

This can mean that the Carens Clavis may be priced similarly to the top-spec Carens variants. It was expected that the Carens Clavis might be priced higher than the Carens. This would’ve made the Carens Clavis a less logical proposition. However, the Carens Clavis makes perfect sense for the buyer who wants a Carens but with all the luxurious features.
