Hyundai and Kia have launched compelling electric vehicles based on a shared platform. Different users are targeted by the Hyundai Creta Electric and Kia Carens Clavis EV. Despite similarities, they differ in pricing, range, design and seating layout.
The starting price for both EVs is Rs. 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), providing solid value for first-time electric buyers. The Clavis EV tops out at Rs. 24.49 lakh (ex-showroom), Rs. 1 lakh more than the Creta Electric. Kia’s premium pricing reflects its added space, range and charging speed.
The Clavis EV’s Standard Range variant claims 404 km, while the Creta Electric offers 390 km using the same 42 kWh battery. Long-range variants use a 51.4 kWh battery, with Kia offering 490 km and Hyundai 473 km. Kia attributes its better range to improved aerodynamics.
Both support fast charging, but Kia offers 100 kW DC capability compared to Hyundai’s 50 kW DC. Despite higher power, Kia’s 10% to 80% charging time is nearly identical to Hyundai’s 58 minutes. Still, the faster charging capability adds futureproofing to the Clavis EV.
The Creta Electric is a 5-seater SUV aimed at young, urban families prioritising compactness and ease of driving. The Clavis EV, a 7-seater MPV, is better suited for larger families needing more passenger and cargo space. These differences make each car appeal to separate lifestyle needs.
Top variants of both cars offer premium features like a panoramic sunroof, ADAS, Bose audio, and ventilated seats. Both have V2L functionality inside and outside, making them suitable for occasional outdoor or utility use. Both cars strike a good balance between practicality and luxury for their price segments.
While the Creta Electric is more affordable overall, the Clavis EV provides slightly more range and versatility. For budget-conscious families, the Creta offers excellent features and performance. Larger families needing extra space and longer range may prefer the Clavis EV despite the higher price.
In summary, the Creta Electric suits city-focused users with smaller families, and the Clavis EV meets broader family or road trip needs. Both stand as strong contenders in the EV space, providing value, performance, and future-ready tech. Budget, seating needs, and daily usage determine your choice.
