Honda is preparing to reintroduce the Prelude nameplate to the Indian market, with plans underway to bring the sporty coupe as a fully imported CBU model. The vehicle was recently showcased to select Indian journalists during a media drive event in Japan, signalling the company’s intent to position it as a niche, brand-building product.
Expected to be priced around Rs. 50 lakhs, the upcoming Prelude will sit as Honda’s halo offering in India. Built on the Accord’s platform, the two-door coupe features a sleek exterior with a low nose, LED-equipped headlamps, flush door handles and a full-width LED light bar at the rear. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels, complementing its sporty character.
The cabin blends modern technology with a driver-focused layout. Notable features include a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, a 10.2-inch digital instrument screen and a 9-inch infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The coupe follows a 2+2 seating configuration and is equipped with amenities such as a wireless charger, an eight-speaker Bose audio system and Honda’s suite of ADAS safety functions.
Powering the Prelude is a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine paired with dual electric motors, delivering a combined output of 197 BHP and 315 Nm. The model also incorporates Honda’s newly developed S+ shift system and offers multiple driving modes including Comfort, GT, Sport and Individual.
If launched as expected next year, the Prelude will mark Honda’s return to the enthusiast-oriented segment, catering to customers seeking a premium hybrid sports coupe experience.
