Gordon Murray built the Le Mans GTR to pay homage to the Long Tails which used to race in Le Mans. It blends nostalgia with modern engineering.
This is the first project from the newly created Gordon Murray Special Vehicles, alongside the S1 LM. The SV Design pillar encompasses a focus on ultra-low volume runs derived from GMA production cars. Only 24 examples will exist, being sold out before launch.
Murray describes longtails as the perfect union of aerodynamic benefit and aesthetic balance, shaping the Le Mans GTR’s sleek design. The body mixes flowing T.50-inspired surfaces with aggressive aero appendages. Features include vertical stacked headlights, a dramatic roof scoop, and a glorious full-width carbon rear wing.
Unlike the T.50, this car entirely omits the rear-mounted fan. The elongated tail naturally enhances aero efficiency and stability at speed. The design elegantly tapers, allowing the underside to rise and create exceptional downforce balance.
At its core, the car carries a three-seat layout, a six-speed manual gearbox, and 654 HP 4.0-litre V12 revving to 12,100 RPM. Murray’s inspiration comes from his 1997 F1 GTR longtail, plus legends like the Porsche 917 and Alfa Tipo 33/3.
The cabin aims for a minimalist, focused atmosphere even beyond the T.50’s purity. All-new switchgear and dials highlight its bespoke nature. Customers can personalise their GTR to reflect iconic endurance racers or push creativity with bold custom finishes.
Pricing remains undisclosed, but expect several million given its rarity and exclusivity. These 24 examples represent some of Murray’s purest work yet. For the fortunate few, they get an opportunity to buy a brand-new Long Tail.
