Ford Bronco New Energy Revealed, Features EREV Technology

Ford has revealed the Bronco New Energy. This electric SUV will soon make its global debut. The styling of this SUV is borrowed from the petrol-powered Bronco and Bronco Sport models.

Ford developed this SUV in partnership with its official collaborator in China, Jiangling Motors. Ford will offer the Bronco New Energy in two versions. These versions include a pure electric variant and an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) model.

The Ford Bronco New Energy is slightly larger in terms of dimensions.

Powertrain Options

The EV variant gets a dual-motor AWD setup with 177 HP at the front and 275 HP at the rear. This gives a combined output of 311 HP and a top speed of 170 Km/hr. It uses a 105.4 kWh BYD-sourced LFP blade battery with a 650 Km CLTC range.

The EREV version features the same front motor with a smaller 245 HP motor at the rear. It also includes a 1.5-litre petrol engine making 150 HP.

The petrol engine is not connected to the wheels but charges the battery and assists the electric motors. The EREV uses a smaller 43.7 kWh battery that delivers 220 Km pure-electric range. The engine increases the total driving range to 1,220 Km!

The EREV version weighs 2,510 Kg, making it lighter than the pure EV model. Ford built both versions with serious off-road intentions and urban comfort in mind. The SUV’s size places it close to the Kia EV9 in dimensions.

Outlook

Ford will first launch the Bronco New Energy in China and could later expand it to other markets. Ford is currently absent from the Indian market but may return soon. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki is also working on EREV technology for India.
