New Gen Audi Q3 Makes India Debut Ahead Of October Launch

Audi has showcased the third generation Q3 in India ahead of its market launch, bringing the latest iteration of its entry-level luxury SUV to the country. The new Q3 is scheduled to go on sale in October and is expected to be priced at around Rs. 60 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The model was unveiled internationally more than a year ago and will continue to be locally assembled in India. Once launched, it will compete with the likes of the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Audi Q3 Gets A Sharper Exterior

The new Q3 adopts a significantly different design compared with its predecessor. It measures 4531 mm in length, 1859 mm in width and 1623 mm in height, while its wheelbase stands at 2681 mm. The SUV is therefore larger across its key dimensions than the outgoing model.

At the front, the Q3 features split LED headlamps positioned on either side of a broad grille. The lower portion of the bumper incorporates a larger honeycomb-patterned air intake, along with a silver-coloured skid plate element.

The side profile features body-coloured cladding, dual-tone alloy wheels and roof rails. A prominent L-shaped chrome element runs along the beltline, while dark trim connecting the rear glass and side windows creates a floating-roof effect.

The rear receives another significant visual update. Split LED tail lamps are linked by a full-width lighting element, with an illuminated Audi badge positioned between them. A large roof spoiler sits above the rear windscreen, while the bumper features sculpted surfaces and silver detailing.

More Modern Cabin

Audi has also substantially revised the Q3’s interior. The India-specification car shown features a black dashboard with beige upholstery and a more technology-focused layout.

A 12.8-inch central touchscreen is paired with an 11.9-inch digital instrument display. The SUV also gets a new four-spoke steering wheel with a rounded-square design, while physical controls are retained for several commonly used functions.

The centre console houses a wireless smartphone charging pad, start/stop button, media controls, electronic parking brake and cup holders. Audi has also moved the transmission selector from the centre console to a stalk behind the steering wheel.

This arrangement allows the centre console to remain relatively uncluttered, although drivers accustomed to a conventional gear selector may need some time to adapt.

Features And Practicality

The new Q3 is equipped with a range of comfort, convenience and technology features. Depending on the final India-specification equipment list, highlights include a Sonos audio system, panoramic sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and configurable ambient lighting.

A 360-degree camera is also available, while paddle shifters add a degree of driver involvement. The SUV offers a claimed boot capacity of 488 litres, providing a practical advantage for everyday use and longer journeys.

2.0-Litre Turbo-Petrol Expected

The third-generation Q3 is expected to continue with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine in India. The unit is expected to produce 204 HP and 320 Nm.

Power will reportedly be sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox to all four wheels via Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Audi claims a 0-100 km/hr acceleration time of 7.1 seconds and a maximum speed of 229 km/hr.

The powertrain therefore remains familiar in concept, with the major changes for this generation concentrated on design, technology, packaging and cabin experience.

India Launch And Rivals

The third-generation Audi Q3 is expected to reach Indian showrooms in October. With an anticipated price of approximately Rs. 60 lakhs (ex-showroom), it will remain positioned as Audi’s entry-level SUV offering in the Indian market.

Its primary rivals will include the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. The new Q3’s larger dimensions, updated cabin and more extensive technology could strengthen its position in this competitive segment, although its final pricing and India-specific equipment will play an important role in determining its market appeal.
