VinFast India will officially launch its first models, the VF6 and VF7, on September 6, 2025. Both SUVs are locally assembled at the company’s new facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The factory rolled out the larger VF 7 SUV as the first product.
Bookings for the VF 6 and VF 7 began on July 15, 2025, with a token amount of Rs 21,000. VinFast aims to cover both midsize and larger electric SUV segments by launching two SUVs together. These are currently dominated by brands like Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai, and MG.
The VinFast VF6 is targeted at the competitive midsize EV space, rivaling the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and others. It uses a 59.6 kWh battery paired with a 204 HP front motor, offering strong performance. The brand claims the WLTP range is 480km, though official ARAI figures remain unannounced.
The VinFast VF 7 will be a large offering, competing against the Mahindra XEV 9e and Tata Harrier EV. The VF 7 features a 70.8 kWh battery and offers both 2WD and AWD configurations. Power output ranges from 204 HP in 2WD to 350 HP and 500 NM of torque in AWD.
The VF7’s WLTP range is 450 km in 2WD form, while the AWD delivers 431 km. The VF7 offers flexibility for different customer preferences with its dual configurations. Both models strike a balance between performance, range, and affordability.
VinFast’s entry into India significantly expands the Vietnamese EV-only brand. Local assembly should help VinFast maintain competitive prices for the VF 6 and VF 7. We expect that together, they will become strong challengers in India’s fast-growing electric SUV market.
