Volkswagen unveiled the second-generation T-Roc. The new model is larger and offered exclusively with hybrid powertrains. The T-Roc has been a popular SUV with over two million units sold worldwide.
The SUV retains its signature “hockey-stick” shoulder line and coupé-like rear while enhancing proportions with a longer wheelbase and 12 cm added length. Standard LED headlights and optional IQ.LIGHT matrix units modernise the look. Illuminated VW logos at both ends underline its futuristic identity.
Buyers have the option to select from six exterior colours, including Canary Yellow, Flamed Red, and Celestial Blue. A contrasting black roof is available as an option. The overall design is a balance of sportiness and elegance.
Inside, the T-Roc appears more upmarket with higher-quality materials and ambient lighting. A textile-wrapped dashboard creates a lounge-like feel. Features like a windscreen head-up display highlight its premiumness.
The increased size benefits passengers, especially at the rear, where even six-footers can sit comfortably. Luggage capacity grows to 475 litres. Premium seating options include ergoActive seats with massage functions on higher trims.
Powertrain options include two 48-volt mild-hybrid engines, i.e. a 1.5-litre eTSI producing 114 HP and the other making 148 HP respectively. Both pair with a seven-speed DSG transmission. More powerful hybrid and R models with a 2.0-litre eTSI will follow.
Technology upgrades include Travel Assist for assisted highway lane changes and Park Assist Pro, enabling smartphone-controlled autonomous parking. An exit warning system boosts safety. Volkswagen has positioned the T-Roc as both practical and technologically advanced.
The range is streamlined into four trims, i.e. Trend, Life, Style, and R-Line, each targeting different buyers. Equipment packages are simplified, but features like Harman Kardon audio and adaptive suspension remain. A new towing bracket adds practicality.
The first-generation T-Roc was sold in India in 2020 as a CBU import in limited numbers. Volkswagen continues to import premium models like the Tiguan R-Line and Golf GTI. It remains to be seen whether the new T-Roc would launch in India.
