BYD has officially revealed specifications for its latest compact electric SUV, the Atto 2. Priced at GBP 30,850 (around Rs. 32.5 lakh) in the UK, it becomes the brand’s most affordable SUV yet. The brand designed this model to make its EV technology more accessible without compromising on performance and safety.
The Atto 2 debuts BYD’s Cell-to-Body (CTB) construction in the compact segment, integrating the Blade battery into the chassis for better rigidity and crash protection. Buyers have the option to choose between two battery options: a 51.1 kWh pack that offers up to 345 km of WLTP range or a larger 64.8 kWh pack that delivers up to 420 km. Both variants ensure efficiency and durability, supported by BYD’s advanced battery technology.
It boasts some of the strongest charging capabilities in its class. The Boost variant supports 82kW DC fast charging, achieving a 30% to 80% charge in 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the Comfort trim receives a 155 kW system, reducing charging time to just 21 minutes, while both models come with 11 kW AC charging as standard.
Inside, the Atto 2 offers a premium feature set. Highlights include a 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen, an eight-speaker sound system, wireless charging, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing users to power external devices directly from the car. The features make the Atto 2 an attractive option for tech-savvy customers.
For India, the Atto 2 could act as an entry point into BYD’s growing EV lineup, positioning it below the Atto 3. If launched, it will compete with upcoming models like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and MG ZS EV. The CTB architecture, competitive range, and premium features could significantly strengthen BYD’s position in the Indian electric vehicle market.
