Hyundai has long been considering launching its premium brand Genesis in India but has not made any official announcement until recently. Now, Hyundai has confirmed that it is evaluating Genesis for the Indian market. This signifies a significant shift in Hyundai’s luxury strategy for India.
Earlier this year, Hyundai announced its plans to launch 26 new models in India by 2030. The booming luxury car market presents a major opportunity for Hyundai. Genesis could help the brand tap into the growing demand for high-end vehicles.
Tarun Garg, COO of Hyundai India, mentioned the evaluation in the company’s latest annual report. He said Genesis aims to redefine luxury through design, innovation, and unique customer experiences. Hyundai wants to cater to evolving expectations of discerning Indian buyers.
Although Hyundai has not revealed any timeline, its official statement confirms serious interest in Genesis. Last year, Hyundai filed patents for the GV80 and GV80 Coupe in India. The GV80 has also been spotted testing on Indian roads.
The presence of the GV80 hints at it being the possible first Genesis model for India. While the Coupe’s launch is uncertain, it’s still a strong contender. Hyundai’s move could reshape the country’s luxury car segment in the coming years.
