Hyundai Motor India is celebrating a significant milestone as its popular midsize SUV, the Creta, completes a decade in the Indian market. First launched in July 2015, the Creta has consistently led the segment, with cumulative domestic sales now surpassing 12 lakh units.
Since its debut, the Creta has maintained a strong foothold in the midsize SUV category, currently holding a market share exceeding 31%. According to Hyundai, it has been the best-selling midsize SUV in the country every year since its launch and has even topped overall SUV sales in India for three out of the first six months of 2025.
Demand for premium features has grown, with variants featuring a sunroof accounting for 70% of total Creta sales in the first half of 2025. Annual sales have more than doubled since the early years. In 2016, Hyundai sold nearly 93,000 units of the Creta, a number that rose to nearly 1.87 lakh units by 2024.
The Creta’s appeal is growing among new car buyers as well. The share of first-time owners rose from 12% in 2020 to 29% in 2024, highlighting its widening customer base. Beyond India, the made-in-India Creta has been exported to over 13 countries, with Hyundai shipping more than 2.87 lakh units overseas.
To commemorate the 10-year journey, Hyundai has announced the ‘Creta Legacy Drive’, a special convoy event featuring 100 vehicles, set to begin from Hyundai’s corporate headquarters in Gurgaon on July 26, 2025.
