Mercedes GLB Discontinued In India, Next Generation To Launch After The CLA
Mercedes has discontinued the GLB SUV in India. The brand introduced its entry-level 7-seater SUV as a CBU Import from Mexico in 2022. The models that were originally brought in have been sold, which led to their discontinuation.
Variants
The Mercedes GLB was available in GLB 200 Progressive, 220d 4Matic and 220d AMG Line 4Matic. The petrol engine was a 1.3-litre turbocharged unit that produced 163 HP and 250 Nm of torque paired with a 7-speed DCT, offered on the Progressive variant with only front wheel drive. The 2.0-litre diesel unit produced 190 HP and 400 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic, was available as all-wheel drive.
It is important to note that the Mercedes EQB, the electric entry-level 7-seater, which was also launched in 2022, continues to be on sale. It is priced from Rs. 72.2 Lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs. 78.9 Lakh (ex-showroom).
Mid-Cycle Refresh
Mercedes gave the GLB SUV a mid-cycle refresh in March 2023. The refresh included a revised front grille and other small touches with increased features. The biggest highlight of the refresh was the introduction of 48V mild-hybrid petrol and diesel powertrains. The company did not sell the facelift in India.
Next-Gen GLB Expected
Mercedes has confirmed that a new GLB SUV is in the working for the Indian market. However, it will happen after the Mercedes CLA has been launched. The Mercedes GLB will be based on the same MMA platform as the sedan which is expected to launch by the end of 2025.
Pricing & Market Positioning
The Mercedes GLB was never a popular vehicle. It was priced starting from Rs. 63.8 Lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs. 69.8 Lakh (ex-showroom). It competed with the likes of Land Rover Discovery Sport and was cheaper by Rs. 1.6 Lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs. 7.6 Lakh (ex-showroom).
