Kia has announced that the updated Carens MPV will be launched on May 8. Test mules have been spotted, providing insight into the changes. The Korean manufacturer launched the Carens in January 2022, and this is the first major update given to the MPV.
The new version of the Kia Carens will be sold alongside the outgoing model, as a premium vehicle. The updated Carens is expected to feature several upgrades over the outgoing model. There are select dealerships that have unofficially opened pre-bookings at a token amount of Rs. 25,000.
The updated Carens will retain the overall silhouette but have revised designs for the exterior components. These include the headlights, DRLS, tail lights, and grille to fit with the newer design language. The tail lamps will be connected with the lightbar, and the headlights will feature the new ‘Starlamp’ theme with triangular housing.
The interior of the new Carens will receive crucial upgrades such as a panoramic sunroof, dual displays for the infotainment system and driver’s display, level 2 ADAS and ventilated seats. These additions will also make their way into the Carens EV, which is expected to launch in the future.
The updated Kia Carens is expected to be powered by the same powertrain combinations as before. This includes a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 115 HP and 144 Nm of torque, a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine producing 160 HP and 253 Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 116 HP and 250 Nm of torque.
The transmission options include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT for the petrol engines. The diesel variants will have the option of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The 2025 Kia Carens is likely to be an electrified version of the people mover.
The current Kia Carens’ current price starts from Rs. 10.60 lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs. 19.7 Lakh (ex-showroom). The additions of new features are expected to increase the price. The Kia Carens currently competes with the Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Rumion and MG Hector Plus.
