Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki announced its 5-year roadmap to reclaim a 50 percent market share by 2030 with introduction of multiple SUVs and EVs. The company also plans to expand its annual production capacity to 4 million units per year (including both Khadkhoda and Gujarat facilities) with the arrival of new electric models. Meanwhile, the Indo-Japanese automaker has confirmed two new SUVs for this year – the Maruti e Vitara and 7-seater Maruti Grand Vitara. Here’re are their launch timelines and the key details we know so far.
Maruti e Vitara
The Maruti e Vitara, the first electric offering from the Indo-Japanese automaker, was earlier expected to hit roads in the first half of 2025. However, the company has recently confirmed that the EV will go on sale towards the end of September, 2025. Based on the e-Heartect platform, the e Vitara will come with two battery pack options – 143bhp, 49kWh and 173bhp, 61kWh – both paired with front-axle mounted motor. It will offer three drive modes – Eco, Normal and Sport.
Interestingly, the e Vitara will be the first Maruti to feature Level 2 ADAS technology. It will also come with features such as 7 airbags, blind spot monitor, a 360 degree camera, tyre pressure monitor, front and rear parking sensors, a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, single zone auto climate control, and more.
Launch – By September
Expected Price – Rs 20 lakh – Rs 30 lakh
7-Seater Maruti Grand Vitara
Codenamed Y17, the forthcoming Maruti 7-seater SUV is scheduled for a market launch later this year. It will essentially be the three-row version of the Grand Vitara, sharing platform, powertrains, features, and design elements with its younger sibling. Maruti’s new Kharkhoda manufacturing facility in Haryana will serve as production hub for the SUV. Spy images reveal that the 7-seater Maruti Grand Vitara will have a longer rear overhand for accommodating a third row of seats. Therefore, its wheelbase might also be extended. A few changes will be made its interior as well.
Based on the Global C-platform, the 7-seater Maruti Grand Vitara is likely to come with the 104bhp, 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L petrol hybrid powertrain options. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be available. Similar to its 5-seater sibling, it will come with the AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
Launch – Late 2025
Expected Price – Rs 14 lakh – Rs 25 lakh
